In hopes of raising awareness for PETA, Alicia Silverstone joins a list of celebrities — including Khloé Kardashian, Pamela Anderson, and Olivia Munn — that have decided to pose nude . In an advertisement for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the actress bares her rear while endorsing a statement that reads, “I’d rather go naked than wear wool.” Silverstone has applied her vegan lifestyle to the clothes she wears, arguing that sheep aren’t being treated properly when they are sheared for their wool.

To help celebrate the weekly millennial tradition of recognizing admirable females on hump day, what follows is a look at why actress Alicia Silverstone makes just as a good of a candidate for Woman Crush Wednesday today as she did in the 1990s.

Quite appropriately, Alicia Silverstone made her movie debut in a film called The Crush in 1994, for which she won a Youth Artist Award and MTV Movie Award. But one year before that, Alicia was featured in three different Aerosmith music videos for songs from the Get A Grip album, including “Cryin’” (with Stephen Dorff and Josh Holloway), “Amazing” (with Jason London) and “Crazy” (with Liv Tyler). However, before she did any of that, she made her first real IMDB-worthy appearance in an episode of The Wonder Years as Fred Savage’s crush.

Of course, her most well-known role was Cher in the movie Clueless . After doing fairly well at the box office, it has developed an incredibly strong following over the years, with Cher and her friends setting the tone for the popular conception of “Valley girls.” The late Brittany Murphy was also in the film in one of her own most memorable roles as Cher’s friend Tai. Clueless was recognized by the MTV Movie Awards, Yong Artist Awards, and the Kids’ Choice Awards, among others.

Two years later, Silverstone appeared as Batgirl in Batman & Robin . Since that time, her acting career has been received less attention, while her activism and vegan lifestyle have become a well-known part of Alicia’s life.

In the mid-2000s, Silverstone returned to the silver screen with roles in films like Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr.) and Beauty Shop (with Queen Latifah). While spending a lot of time on stage during this decade, she also made a few brief television runs, including NBC’s Miss Match (canceled after 11 episodes) and several pilots that were never picked up.

More recently, her acting career has been very successful on Broadway. However, after appearing in both Who Gets the Dog? and King Cobra this year, she has four more films coming out and a pilot for TV Land. Along with Catfight , The Tribes of Palos Verdes , and The Killing of a Sacred Deer , Silverstone has a leading role in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul , the fourth film in the franchise based on children’s books by Jeff Kinney. The TV Land pilot is for a show called American Woman , based on the life of Kyle Richards from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills .

But recently, Alicia is making headlines for another ad she’s doing for a good cause. A longtime supporter of animal rights and the Vegan lifestyle, Silverstone is taking a stand against the wool industry. While many activists choose to focus primarily on how pigs, chickens, and cattle are treated by the meat industry, Alicia also feels that it’s important to realize how sheep are being treated when raised purely for profit. A lot of harm can be done to the sheep, and they are treated as commodities rather than living creatures.

Wool, in general, has not been thought about by many, many people. It’s just not something that’s brought to their attention. The biggest thing that people always say to me is, ‘Oh, but they just shear the sheep! They don’t kill the sheep.’ They’re cut, they’re harmed, they get very seriously wounded. And there’s no care for them when they’re wounded.

As reported by the Huffington Post , the bare-butt ad is currently on display via New York City billboard in Times Square.

For anyone with a Netflix subscription, Alicia Silverstone can currently be streamed on-demand in Clueless (1995), Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004) and Angels in Stardust (2014).
