The Steam summer sale has kicked off on Thursday with prices slashed as much as 75 percent on popular games.
The annual sale from Valve’s online game retailer is a much-anticipated event among gamers, and this year offers three different kinds of deals. There are daily deals, flash sales, and community’s choice options, each offering slashed prices.
The Steam summer sale also gives shoppers a chance to wait for the best prices. Users can add games to a wish list or sign up for notifications when a certain game goes on sale.
Deals for Thursday included Left for Dead 2 at 75 percent off, coming out to just $4.99. Bioshock Infinite at also on sale for $29,99 (normally priced at $59.99), and it comes with trading cards. Other games on sale for the remainder of Thursday are: Endless Space, Mars: War Logs, Hotline Miami, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Call of Juarez Gunslinger, Toki Tori 2+, and Don’t Starve.
The shorter, eight-hour sale saw The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim priced for $35.59 (normally $59.99) and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive marked down to $5.09.
Every three hours, the Steam summer sale will put another game on sale from the “Community’s Choice” section. On Thursday, gamers could pick between a 40-66 percent price cut on Dishonored, Borderlands 2, or Far Cry 3.
Prices for the Steam Summer sale already been published and passed around online, along with some buying advice from gamers.
“Daily Deal and Flash Deals are the lowest price a game will be during the sale,” user raven12456 noted on Reddit’s gaming board . “If it is not one of those currently, there is a chance it will become one of those and be even cheaper later. If it’s the last day and it hasn’t gone lower, that is as low as it’s going to go.”
