Is this the world’s smallest dog?
ABC reports that Meysi, a 3.25 ounce Terrier from Poland, could soon claim the title from the Guinness Book of World Records . Meysi is only three-months old, so she’ll have to wait a few months to make the record official (Guinness requires dogs to be at least one-year-old before being considered for a world record), but veterinarians have told the dog’s owner, Anna Pohl, that the dog isn’t expected to get much bigger.
Pohl said that she had to feed Meysi, who was just 1.5 ounces when she was born, with a syringe for the first few weeks of her life.
Pohl said:
“The worst was the first six weeks … [I got] zero sleep. I was feeding her day and night, every half hour. Sometimes I ran out of strength, had to call out of work.”
Meysi is in the running to be named the world’s smallest dog, but she does have stiff competition. Beyonce, a Dachshund and Chihuahua mix , weighs just four ounces, and Milly, a Chihuahua from Puerto Rico, stands just three inches tall. Meysi, Beyonce, and Milly will all have to wait until they turn 1-years-old before they can be considered for the Guinness Book of World Records .
When the dogs do reach their first birthdays, they will have to beat Boo Boo, a Chihuahua from Kentucky, that holds the smallest living dog title for height at just four inches tall and Heaven Sent Brandy, a Chihuahua from Florida, that holds the record for length at just six inches.
