The Mariah Carey shoulder injury that caused her to visit a New York hospital this weekend may have been more serious than originally believed. As The Inquisitr previously reported, she stumbled in her high heels and hurt her shoulder on the set of a video being filmed by her husband Nick Cannon.
Nick Cannon appeared Tuesday on The Today Show to talk about the injury, and he blurted out that Mariah Carey’s shoulder injury was really “pretty serious.” Cannon described the accident in some detail:
“Not only did she dislocate her shoulder, she actually cracked a rib and she…chipped her shoulder bone during the video shoot.”
“She’s in this nice, beautiful gown, heels on and everything, and she was on this platform. She reached and kinda of slipped and fell on her whole side.”
Cannon said that Carey worked through the pain, actually returning to the set of the video after she was wrapped up in the emergency room.
With the recent success of #Beautiful, Carey had said that she would leave American Idol after just one season. In a widely publicized tweet , she announced that the song had gone to No. One in 30 countries, encouraging her to focus more on her music.
Mariah Carey’s rep Cindi Berger had previously released this statement:
“Mariah injured herself while filming a video with Jeezy for the remix of ‘#Beautiful,’ directed by her husband Nick Cannon. She was taken to hospital late last night, where doctors reset her shoulder. She is fine and recovering at home.”
The announcement tried to downplay the serious nature of the injury. According to Berger, the singer is still slated to appear Central Park’s Great Lawn on July 13 for a Hurricane Sandy Relief benefit.
However, Mariah Carey will be wearing an unusual accessory — an arm sling.
