J.R. Smith Wins 6th Man Award

J.R. Smith has won the NBA’s Sixth Man Award.

The league hasn’t officially made the announcement yet but several sources have reported that Smith will receive this year’s award.

Sports Center writes on Twitter: “THIS JUST IN: The Knicks’ J.R. Smith has won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award.”

According to ABC , the Knicks have called a news conference for this afternoon to announce the award. J.R. Smith will officially be named the league’s best 6th Man at 2:30 today.

Smith may come off the bench for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference but he’s one of the Knicks leading scorers. He’s averaged 18.1 points this year and has had 29 games this season with more than 20 points.Smith also averaged 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

Smith is the first Knickerbocker to win the 6th man award since John Starks won following the 1996-97 season.

With Smith, the Knicks claimed the Atlantic Division title for the first time since 1994 and are currently one game up on the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.
