Yoko Ono has revealed a new clothing line that was inspired by her late husband and Beatles star John Lennon.
Ono based her new designs on Fashions For Men, a set of sketches that she originally drew for Lennon before they wed in 1969.
The designs are as eccentric as Yoko Ono herself. Among her choices are a sweater with eyelet cut-outs around the nipples and a pair of pants with a hand silhouette stitched over the crotch. There is even a pair of “bumless” trousers that are see-through on the backside.
Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily Ono reveals:
“I was inspired to create Fashions for Men amazed at how my man was looking so great. I felt it was a pity if we could not make clothes emphasising his very sexy bod (sic).
So, I made this whole series with love for his hot bod and gave it to him as a wedding present. You can imagine how he went wild and fell in love with me even more.”
The clothing line will be sold at Opening Ceremony stores.
According to Opening Ceremony co-founder Humberto Leon:
“I think she just fell in love with John’s body and wanted to show off all the parts … she loved. There’s something so beautiful about that sentiment. And we’ve realized these designs in pretty actual terms of how she drew them.”
Yoko Ono is known for her weird and eccentric style and she is definitely taking that style to the brink this time around.
Yoko Ono’s most recently London exhibit was lashed by critics, it will be interesting to see what they think of this new collection.
