Kick-Ass 2 has had its release date in the United States delayed until the middle of August, in order to make room for another comic-book adaptation, 2 Guns.
2 Guns is an adaptation of Steven Grant’s graphic novel of the same name, and will star Mark Wahlberg, Denzel Washington, and Paula Patton, whilst Kick-Ass 2 is the sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s 2010 comic-book epic, which became a cult classic upon its release.
Kick-Ass 2 was originally intended to arrive at the end of June, but it will now arrive in multiplexes on August 16, 2013 instead. Total Film have reported that the adjustment is simply a scheduling change, and has nothing to do with the quality of either film.
Jeff Wadlow has replaced Matthew Vaughn as the writer and director of the movie, which is based on the comic by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., whilst Aaron Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are each set to return to the fold.
Joining them will be Jim Carrey, Morris Chestnut, John Leguizamo, and Donald Faison, who will be playing Colonel Stars and Stripes, Marcus Williams, Javier, and Doctor Gravity respectively.
This sequel has been in development for several years, and the stop-start production of the movie has had made many fans fretting that it might affect the quality of the piece.
Kick-Ass 2 is set to follow Christopher Mintz-Plasse’s character, Chris D’Amico, as he becomes a megalomanic criminal that wreaks havoc on the street of New York City. This antagonism stems from the fact that his father, Mark Strong’s Frank D’Amico, was killed in the original movie by Aaron Johnson’s Kick-Ass.
Kick-Ass didn’t manage to gross $100 million at the worldwide box-office, but it has amassed a loyal and devoted following due to its controversial characters, which includes a foul-mouthed 13-year-old vigilante who has a deft-hand for murder.
