The Oklahoma Sooners will enter the 2010 CFB season as the #10 ranked team according to the Sporting News. By Sooners standards the 8-5 record in 2009 was sub par. However they had a lot of things go wrong. There seems to be a lot of reasons to be optimistic over this group. QB Landry Jones is a year ahead of schedule and will lead the Sooner attack as a sophomore. Look for this team to turn WR Ryan Broyles lose, and that could mean that this team will put up big numbers. On defense there is no getting around DE Jeremy Beal, or through LB Travis Lewis.

The key date on their schedule is probably October 2nd when they travel to that Mecca of football in Dallas to play the Texas Longhorns. The Sooners have lost four of the last five games in this rivalry. This may just be the best college football regular season game in 2010. Even though the schedule doesn’t look that tough, they do have to travel to Cincinnati in September. They also get Baylor and Oklahoma State on the road in the last two weeks of the season.

Their next big thing also lies on the D line. DT Jamarkus McFarland may have gotten off to a slow start after being the school’s top 2009 recruit. However he did help this team plug Stanford’s power running game in the Sun Bowl. Having him in the middle and Beal on the end makes this a very tough defense.
