The toughest test for the New Orleans Saints in 2010 will be the so called Super Bowl hangover. They have already proven they climb the highest mountain, now they will try to buck recent NFL history and do it back to back. Over the last eleven years only one team (Patriots) have won back to back Super Bowls. Not one of the other ten champions even reached the conference championship game. On top of that five of these teams did not even make the playoffs the year after winning the big game.
Offense is what the Saints do best, and they will be lead once again by QB Drew Brees. It looks like Pierre Thomas will be the featured back with the team utilizing Reggie Bush in other ways. Marques Colston, Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem, and TE Jeremy Shockey make up the receiving corps. The O line is set, with three potential pro bowlers manning it.
Last year this team transformed their defense from a liability into a strength. They are aggressive and went out and abused three hall of fame QB’s in the playoffs. The D line will have to play better against the run. They do run a base 4-3 scheme, and there are some concerns in the LB corps. Strong Side LB Scott Fujita bolted in free agency and this team is looking for a young prospect to step up and prove he is capable of handling this job. The secondary is great; Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter will be the starting corners with the recently drafted Patrick Robinson set to develop. Darren Sharper and Roman Harper are the deep guys and they are very solid.
On Special Teams Garrett Hartley will be the kicker, with Thomas Morestead handling the punting duties. Bush will likely return punts, and Courtney Roby will return kicks.
