A massive sinkhole in Toledo, Ohio almost claimed the life of 60-year-old Pamela Knox as her car fell into the massive hole while she drove.
Officials have confirmed that the driver was lucky to escape unharmed, but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. Fortunately she was able to climb out of the sinkhole with the assistance of a ladder.
Its not clear whether the sinkhole was caused by collapsed sewers or, as firemen at the scene suggested, a water main break.
The Mayor of the city, Mike bell, commented from the scene of the Toledo sinkhole saying:
“I’m just happy that as I understand, she walked herself out [of the hole]. We had a lot of rain lately and something must have washed out under the road.”
Officials were called to scene at approximately midday to rescue the woman driver and seal off the surrounding roads. It was reported that the hole was 10 to 20 feet deep. The car was recovered at around 4 p.m.
Sergeant Heffernan, who was assisting as a crane pulled the recked car from the hole said.
