AMC has found a new showrunner for The Walking Dead .
Supervising producer Scott Gimple is currently finalizing a deal to succeed Glen Mazzara as the executive producer on the zombie drama series. AMC had no comment on the change in leadership at the time of this writing, but Gimple will be the third showrunner the series has had in four seasons.
The previous showrunner, Glen Mazzara, left over a difference of opinions about the direction of the series. But according to Deadline, Mazzara’s departure was said to have been instigated by executive producer Robert Kirkman , who wrote the comic series on which the TV show is based.
Prior to that, Frank Darabont, the series creator, was fired early in season 2 for reasons still unknown. Gimple is expected to convene with his writing team to start working on season 4 within the next two weeks. He has been with the series since season 2 when the show established its writing staff. He has written five episodes of the series.
Gimple’s previous writing credits include Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance , a couple of episodes of FlashForward and Pepper Ann . He also produced the TV series Chase , starring Kelli Giddish — who is currently on Law Order: SVU as Det. Amanda Rollins — and Cole Hauser. He also produced the Disney series Fillmore! , starring That’s So Raven ‘s Orlando Brown and Tara Strong, who provides the voices of Timmy Turner and Poof on Nickelodeon’s The Fairly Oddparents.
New episodes of The Walking Dead will begin airing on February 10.
