Stephen Colbert will be making a cameo in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.
It’s not clear who Colbert will play, if he’ll have any lines, or what movie he will appear in, but according to The Hollywood Reporter the comedy central pundit will be appearing in at least one movie in The Hobbit series.
Colbert will not be appearing in the first movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey , which gets released this December. He may appear in The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug , The Hobbit: There and Back Again, or both.
Rumors about Colbert’s cameo in The Hobbit started flying last week when the comedian told Playboy magazine that he recently visited Jackson on the set of The Hobbit. Colbert, who is a huge J.R.R. Tolkien fan, said that he “could be” making a cameo in the movie.
Colbert said:
“Peter Jackson invited me to the set last year. I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I’m a big fan of the films.”
A source told the Hollywood Reporter that Colbert will in fact make a cameo in the trilogy. The details of the cameo, however, are not known.
