Actress’ Hair Falling Out, January Jones Says She’s Losing It In ‘Clumps’

Actress January Jones says her hair is falling out, but it’s not a medical condition the star feels is the cause of her hair loss.

The actress’ hair seems to be falling out for a reason many women can relate to — frequent color changes. While Jones, 35, is most recognizable to audiences as a blonde, the Mad Men star has adopted all sorts of shades for the roles she’s played.

And while hair falling out can be a sign of illness, it can also happen when follicles are over-processed and subject to harsh treatments — with bleach being a frequent culprit in cases of hair loss.

Jones was at the Sundance Film Festival when she told British media outlet Grazia Daily about the issue. The actress says her hair is falling out due to processing and color changes and explains that her son prefers her as a blonde:

“I have been every color and now my hair is falling out in clumps … I like it all colors, it makes you feel different according to what color it is, but I prefer to be blonde. My son recognizes me in photos when I am blonde. He says, ‘Mama.’ “

The actress ran through a quick relay of all her hair changes in recent roles and lists a bunch of treatments that are known to be potentially damaging.

Jones said:

“I’ve been blonde, red with extensions for this film [ Sweetwater ], then blonde, then black, and now blonde again. I’m going to have to shave it off and wear a wig.”

Experts say that hair falling out cannot always be avoided and that coloring as infrequently as possible can cut down on hair loss.
