I guess we should start by saying that the Minnesota Vikings are a pretty good football team. No matter what happens with QB Brett Favre, they will remain a pretty good football team. However without Favre this team is going to struggle. Sure Sage Rosenfels lit up the St. Louis Rams, but let’s be honest they are the Rams. If they can lean on the running game they will still beat a lot of teams, but if this team wants another season like last, they really need Favre back. At this point I do not think he will come back, and that his ankle injury is far wore than many of us realize.
So that leaves the running of the offense to Rosenfels, or Tavaris Jackson. I don’t see anyone having a lot of faith in either of these two. They do have Adrian Peterson and Rookie Toby Gerhart in the backfield, and that might be the key to their season. The wide out corps is pretty good with Sidney Rice, Bernard Berrian, and Percy Harvin. The O line is very good, and set for the 2010 season.
The defense is led by Jared Allen, and the front four are very good. They run a base 4-3 defense, and there does not appear to be a weakness anywhere. The defensive secondary is very good, and pretty deep. This is a defense that can shut folks down, and opponents will have to game plan around it.
On Special Team Ryan Longwell will be the kicker, and Chris Kluwe will handle the punting duties. Percy Harvin will return kicks; with Darius Reynaud will return kicks. Like most things with the Vikings it is an above average unit.
