As reported by ABC affiliate WATE, the $1 subsCustomer Appreciation Day event is a nationwide promotion that will be in effect from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on April 21. All six of the original Jimmy John’s eight-inch subs are available through the deal, including the Pepe, Big John, and Veggie. The Jimmy John’s BLT is also available for $1. The deal is limited to one $1 sub per person, and it covers dine-in and carry-out orders only.

Jimmy John’s is based in Illinois, according to a business profile compiled by Bloomberg . The company was founded in 1983 by Jimmy John Liautaud . In addition to specializing in gourmet sandwiches and sides, the restaurant also caters events. The company has expanded operations over the course of recent years and was named as America’s seventh-fastest-growing restaurant chain by Nation’s Restaurant News in 2015.

According to News-Gazette, in late 2015, CEO Jimmy John Liautaud scrapped plans for an initial public offeringthat could have ultimately placed the chain’s value at $2 billion. At the last minute, Liautaud said he felt as though it would be better to stick to his roots rather than venture into the world of big business.

“I made the whole Thanksgiving dinner and right before I was going to serve it, I threw it out,” Jimmy John Liautaud explained. “I don’t think my wheelhouse is comfortable in Wall Street. My wheelhouse is small-town America.”

Like many big companies, Jimmy John’s sometimes gets some public exposure that is both unintentional and unwelcome. As noted by the Inquisitr , in late 2015, the company acted swiftly after it was reported via social media that a Jimmy John’s worker refused to serve a police officer at a franchise location. That employee was later fired.

In 2014, Jimmy John’s also came under public scrutiny for allegedly requiring employees to make sandwiches while ill. A number of former employees worked with Industrial Workers of the World to make the claims public. A spokesperson responded by reiterating the company’s policy that it does not provide paid sick leave to employees, a relatively common practice with respect to workers in the food service industry.

Nevertheless, Jimmy John’s enjoys high-profile, positive publicity through a number of outlets, including the sponsorship of professional athletes. The restaurant chain sponsored Brock Lesnar during his stint as a UFC fighter and when he transitioned back to WWE in 2012, he was permitted to wear the Jimmy John’s logo during on-screen appearances. The sub chain is also involved with NASCAR, sponsoring the Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast 300 race, as well as driver Kevin Harvick.

On their official website, Jimmy John’s has posted a detailed FAQ section regarding the $1 sub deal for Customer Appreciation Day. The site also includes a directory of participating Jimmy John’s locations .
