Naomi Watts has a long history of successful roles as an actress. She is now about to try her hand on the small screen with a starring role in a Netflix original series titled Gypsy .
Gypsy has been described by Netflix as a dramatic show that portrays the life of a therapist, Jean Holloway, who seems to form relationships with people in an inappropriate way, according to Deadline .
Watts will portray Holloway in the film, and it will center on these relationships she forms with people who are in some way part of the lives of patients she sees professionally.
It has also been described as a psychological thriller and hails from Universal Television with writer Lisa Rubin and Working Title.

Naomi Watts will be taking the direction of Sam Taylor-Johnson, at least in the first two episodes of the 10-episode first season on the streaming network. Johnson is perhaps best known for directing Fifty Shades of Grey .
One thing that is for sure: Naomi Watts definitely has several movie credits to her name that are phenomenal, to say the least. Her performances have been stellar, and many of the films have gone on to award-worthy status in the industry.
This will actually be Naomi Watts second attempt at a TV series. She first starred in the NBC series Sleepwalkers , but that show met an early demise from the network.

Some might say that Watts did not reach her epic peak of stardom until she got a break from director David Lynch, who put her in the top role in Mulholland Dr. back in 2001.
That essentially put Watts in the driver’s seat with her career moving forward. After her stellar performance in Mulholland Dr. , Naomi Watts started a commercially successful run the very next year, when she starred in the Japanese horror remake film The Ring along with the sequel, The Ring 2 .
Watts went back for another turn at award-worthy movies and received an Oscar nomination for her role in 21 Grams . She then set her sights once again on stardom as the epic beauty in the 2005 remake of King Kong by Peter Jackson.
Fans of Naomi Watts will also get to see her at her at her best when she teams up with Jessica Lange to take on the indie film The Secret Life of the Lonely Doll .

In that film, Watts will portray Jean Nathan, a woman who spent five years of her life trying to figure out what put Dare Wright (Jessica Lange) down a path to such a lonely existence inside an isolated wing of a public Queens hospital.
Some fans may know that Dare Wright was the famous children’s book author in the ’50s who wrote the novel The Lonely Doll .
The biopic will not only feature Naomi Watts and Jessica Lange, but will be directed by Gia Coppola , according to Indie Wire .
Naomi Watts has been quite the busy woman here lately. Not only will she be starring in Gypsy , she will also serve as the executive producer on the Netflix original series. She will be joined an executive producer by Lisa Rubin, Liza Chasin, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Andrew Stearn.
Watts’ show has been ordered straight to series on Netflix and will feature a 10-episode first season. There has been no word yet if this is just an event series for the streaming network or if there will be multiple seasons.
As of right now, the expected premiere date for the Naomi Watts headlined show is 2017, with no month or day specified. It will premiere all 10 episodes at the same time, which is as usual for Netflix.
