Cameron Diaz Shells Out Advice About Menopause

Cameron Diaz was once known as the cheery playful actress, shaking her behind in the Charlie’s Angels films. And now that she’s matured, she’s turned into an advice guru, a la Gwyneth Paltrow. She has advice for women of all ages, but what’s notable here is that she discusses menopause.

Women usually don’t openly discuss menopause in Hollywood, because it suggests aging. As we already know, if you’re a woman over the age of 30 in Hollywood — and you aren’t Meryl Streep — you’re put out to pasture. Actors receive more substantial material as they age, while actresses are seemingly punished. Just the other day, the Inquisitr reported that Olivia Wilde found out she was considered too “old” to play Leonardo DiCaprio’s love interest in The Wolf of Wall Street , and she’s barely into her 30s. The fact that Diaz, a sex symbol in the 90s, is actually talking about what happens to women’s bodies when they age is fascinating and brave in its own way.

Diaz, 43, spoke to magazine Women’s Health about being aware of the changes that occur within the body when you’re moving towards menopause.

“Make connections, make friends, join communities, and really honor yourself. You’re getting ready to make that transition to menopause, so pay attention to where you’re at emotionally, physically, and mentally.”

She continued, “The women who stress have it longer and harder, but the ones who accept it have it shorter and less severe.”

While speaking to Vogue Magazine , Diaz said that when it comes to herself, she’s keeping healthy by staying active and fit. The actress is known for being a daredevil by doing her own stunts, so it isn’t a surprise to know that as she ages, Diaz doesn’t want to retire to a life of leisure. Instead, the newlywed says that she wants to be fit and active in her 70s so she can live a long and healthy life.

“When I’m 75-years-old, I want to be snowboarding and scuba diving and surfing and hiking, if I’m lucky. Getting older is a blessing, and not everyone gets to do it. It’s not a given. It’s a privilege.”

Diaz has been open about her body over the years, thanks to her book The Body Book , which came out in 2014. In the book, she writes that she loves the gym, which isn’t a surprise seeing as how she’s known for her fit body.

“Personally, I love the gym. I love being around people who are sweaty and pushing themselves. Who are all focused on the same goals. I love being in a group like that.”

Another taboo topic she unabashedly discussed was hair or no hair “down there,” and although Diaz drew in critics, Cameron insisted that being bare down there is not a trend to follow.

“I think permanent laser hair removal sounds like a crazy idea. Forever? I know you may think you’ll be wearing the same style of shoes forever and the same style of jeans forever, but you won’t.”

Her latest book is called The Longevity Book , which she co-authored with Sandra Bark.

Amazon describes her second book , which features a headshot of Diaz make up free, as “a personal, practical, and authoritative guide that examines the art and science of growing older and offers concrete steps women can take to create abundant health and resilience as they age.”

Cameron Diaz’s new book will be released on April 5, 2016. Will you be purchasing her book?
