Daisy Ridley Slams Body Shamers, But It’s Not What You Think

Usually when we hear about body shaming, it’s because someone is making fun of a full-figured woman, or talking about which actress gained how much weight in the span of x amount of weeks or months. Daisy Ridley is firing back over body shamers, but it’s not what you think.

According to E! , The Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress took to Instagram after someone commented on her picture saying that her slim figure “set unrealistic expectations” for young girls because “real women have curves.”

Ridley took to Instagram to voice her opinion by hitting back at the body shamer. Ridley captioned a photo of herself as Rey from Star Wars: The Force Awakens . In the think bubble, which she placed, it mocks the negative message the body shamer was projecting onto her photo. “I can’t believe the unrealistic expectations I’m setting for young girls. Who cast me anyway? Don’t they know real women have curves?”

The internet heard Daisy Ridley loud and clear. In a post that has now been deleted from her Instagram, Ridley captioned the photo with, “‘Real women’ are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave. I am a ‘real woman’ like every other woman in this world.”

That said, she didn’t get that body naturally. As the Inquisitr reported , Ridley trained heavily to get into shape for Star Wars: The Force Awakens . Ridley has used Instagram to share how she trained for the role. In one video, the actress does a 176-pound deadlift effortlessly. In another video, Daisy does lunges, deadlifts, and squats.

She has also tried to inspire fans with a can-do-it attitude when it comes to hitting the gym. Ridley said, “You just have to do what makes you feel good, try not [to] compare yourself [with] other people and LOVE YOURSELF!”

As for what Daisy went through during training, the actress detailed the experience in an interview with OK! Magazine .

“Yes (I trained) for three months, five hours a day. It’s weird when you can’t tell people what (film) you’re doing and they’re like, ‘Why are you so muscly?’ And I’m like, I’m at the gym, by myself.”

The fact that she had to train for the role was a no brainer, but seeing as how Star Wars: The Force Awakens was off limits in terms of spoilers, her buff body almost gave her role away. That said, it sounds like the team behind Star Wars had a certain kind of aesthetic they wanted to go for. For example, for her make up J.J. Abrams didn’t want Ridley to have a smoky eye look.

The make-up artist Amanda Knight explained exactly what they were looking for when it came to her make up.

“We took sand from the desert where we were filming and boiled it in water to sterilise it,” Knight recently told Allure . “Then we’d stick it on Daisy’s face before each take. But it didn’t really matter. When she was filming fight scenes, she was face down in the sand anyway. And there was nothing sterile about that at all. Poor Daisy really went through it.”

She continued, “We didn’t want her looking like she had full mascara on. The Kanebo (Sensai 38C) mascara has a tiny little brush; it worked well and didn’t smudge. We put it at the root and didn’t brush it all the way through.”
