Meghan Trainor is someone many people love and loathe. Being in that position is usually good for a pop star since the haters usually help the singer gain attention. However, some of the attention that Meghan Trainor has received since getting a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist earlier this week is downright angry.
Salon went as far as to write an article on why Meghan Trainor must be stopped.
“But just when it looked like the Grammys had come to its senses with most of its nominees this year, it creates a very weird juxtaposition: Putting one of the freshest figures in indie rock, Courtney Barnett, alongside one of the most annoying and unoriginal singers in history, Meghan Trainor.”
The article opines that last year’s nomination for “All About That Bass” was also bewildering. Saloncontinues to insult Trainor’s music throughout the article.
Celebrity website ONDT first reported on the Meghan Trainor Grammy backlash . Some commenters thought the “backlash” was overblown. However, judging from the comments on Twitter, there are many who don’t believe Trainor deserves a Grammy nomination.
Meghan Trainor certainly wasn’t the one-hit wonder that many thought she would be. However, her success has also led to a backlash. Her video for “ Dear Future Husband ” was deemed as a setback for women. However, according to an interview with MTV , Trainor was shocked by the backlash .
“Just surprised the random places people are asking me if I was being sexist. But no, I don’t believe I was. I think I was just writing my song to my future husband out there, wherever he is. He’s chilling right now, taking a minute getting ready for me; it’s going to be great.”
Perhaps fans of other artists are just upset that while Meghan was nominated, their faves weren’t. Madonna fans were angry that despite receiving overall great reviews for her album Rebel Heart , the Queen of Pop failed to get any nominations.
@Madonna snubbed once again from the Grammys? Ageism at its finest

However , the campaign that proceeded Rebel Heart led to one PR disaster after another. It seems as if Meghan Trainor held a better public image this year than Madonna did.
Madonna was obviously frustrated that somebody leaked her album before it was even finished. She put part of the album on sale in December, called the leaks “artistic rape” and “a form of terrorism,” and then caused faux outrage when she reposted pictures fans made of civil rights leaders with wires around their faces that symbolized society trying to shut them down. Madonna shouldn’t have expected the social media world to understand.
Right before releasing Rebel Heart , Madonna performed at the BRIT Awards , where she was pulled off stage when her cape didn’t come off. She victoriously got up and finished the song, but — in the end — she stole the show for all the wrong reasons. By the time Rebel Heart came out, the whole project was an afterthought. Only one single, “Bi**h I’m Madonna,” managed to chart. However, the reviews for Rebel Heart were the best she has received in a decade.
In terms of Prince’s lack of nominations, it’s important to note that he barely promoted his latest album. Perhaps the Grammy Awards are all about what is current. And nobody can deny that Meghan Trainor is current, even if she’s not 100 percent liked.
