Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara of the Bruins have both been nominated for awards at the NHL Award Ceremony in Las Vegas.

Bergeron, obviously uncomfortable with the attention, spoke to reporters on Tuesday, discussing the award and how it feels to be nominated. The Goston Globe reports that the Bruins player stated:

“It’s an honor to be nominated for this year and it’s great to be with all the names that are here. It feels great, but it’s all about my teammates. I’ve said all along hockey’s such a team sport. You can’t win any individual awards without them. That’s the reason why I’m here.”

The two teammates are staying at the Wynn Resort. Chara is up for the Norris Trophy, awarded to the game’s top defenseman, and Bergeron is up for the Selke Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s best defensive forward. If he wins, the Boston Herald reports that Chara would receive his second Norris Trophy.

Bergeron, who is now fully healed from an oblique muscle injury, which hindered his performance in Boston’s playoff run two months ago, stated:

“I want to be known for taking pride in all details of the game. I really don’t care about prizes or what people think of me on offense or defense. It’s all about my game and what I can do.”

Chara spoke to reporters about his teammate, Patrice Bergeron, praising him by saying:

“I really admire guys like that. He could easily be in (the) top five, 10 in scoring in the league. But he’s willing to sacrifice that to be 20th, 30th, 40th, to play the game the right way at both ends of the ice.”

Do you think Patrice Bergeron will win the Selka Trophy at Wednesday’s NHL Awards Ceremony?
