Keith Glaspie was charged with biting a police dog, following his release for treatment of dog bites.
Newser reports that the Delaware man, wanted as a suspect in a shooting case, bit a two-year old police dog named Maxx on the ear after the dog stopped Glaspie’s flight from police officers. To be fair, the dog bit back; Maxx managed to chomp Glaspie on the thigh, but doctors said that Maxx suffered the worse injury. According to ABC, Glaspie managed to bite the dog’s ear in two, a wound that required over fifteen stitches.
This is not Glaspie’s first run in with the law in recent memory; he was being sought by the police for his possible connection to a shooting last Friday, in which he allegedly fired two shots into a car (neither occupants of the vehicle were injured), and for attempting to escape after being pulled over on 5 June. Glaspie is now being charged with felony assault on law enforcement animal, resisting arrest, assault on a law enforcement officer, property damage and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance.
One of the pursuing officers, Corporal David Pellegrino, said of the attack that “when [Glaspie] was biting the dog, it was something we haven’t seen…yes, our dogs do get assaulted, but no one has ever tried to cannibalize one of our animals before.”
While a man biting a dog is certainly strange, one must point out that it doesn’t quite constitute “cannibalism,” as officer Pellegrino suggests, as cannibalism refers to humans eating other humans .
