The release of Star Wars: Battlefront is just days away, but Xbox One owners lucky enough to have an EA Access membership get access to the full game via a timed trial released Thursday. Meanwhile, a Companion App has also been released for Android and iOS that allows players to earn in-game credits early.

The full 19.5 GB download of Star Wars: Battlefront is available for Xbox One owners with an EA Access membership. The trial can be downloaded by going to the EA Access app and selecting games, then the Battlefront tile, and then the “free trial” button. The trial grants 10 hours of play with no restrictions on what gametypes can be played or what in-game weapons and gadgets can be earned.

When the 10 hour trial is over, the Star Wars: Battlefront will be unplayable until Tuesday, November 17, with a purchase of either the digital or retail version of the game. Until then, players will be able to take part in the Walker Assault, Fighter Squadron, Supremacy, Cargo, Droid Run, Blast, Drop Zone, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs Villains game modes, plus the co-op missions. All planets will be available, too – Hoth, Endor, Sullust, and Tatooine.

For those that aren’t aware, EA Access is a subscription service that gives Xbox One games from the Electronic Arts catalog for free, such as Dragon Age: Inquisition, Madden NFL, and Battlefield 4. It also gives early access to trial versions of newly released games, as well as a 10 percent discount when purchasing EA games and DLC expansions. The EA Access subscription costs $30 for a year, or $5 for a single month.

Meanwhile, Star Wars: Battlefront developer DICE pushed the first patch out for the game on Thursday. It includes various early fixes as the studio continues to prep for the game’s launch on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Here are the patch notes as discovered by Reddit user TeRmRaN19 .

  • Tweaked hero card spawn times
  • General bug fixes for the partner system
  • Various fixes for getting stuck when exiting Starfighters and ground vehicles
  • General crash and stability fixes
  • Online traffic performance improvements
  • Various text fixes for all languages
  • General bug fixes for both Missions and Multiplayer

Those that always feel the need to be connected all of the time with Star War: Battlefrontshould check out the companion app that was just released on the Google Play Storeand iTunes. It can also be accessed via the Battlefront website. Players can use this app to connect with their PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE, and Origin accounts to track their stats and progress, as well as all of the Star Cards, Blasters, and other items that have been unlocked.

The Star Wars: Battlefront companion app also comes with a Base Command mini-game to play and earn credits. These credits can then be used to purchase Star Cards, Blasters, and other unlocked items in the full Battlefront game, and then used to customized loadouts used while playing.

Base Command is a strategy card game where players must defend a Rebel base against Imperial forces. Cards are used to mount attacks or trigger special abilities as Stormtroopers, Tie Fighters, Speeder Bikes, AT-ATs, and more close in.

The first 8 Sieges for Base Command are available now, with the remaining 42 coming on November 17. Cards earned in the full Battlefront game can also be used in the companion app.

In addition to the mini-game, the Star Wars: BattlefrontCompanion App will also be used by DICE to update the game’s community on special in-game events. Users will also be able to tell when their PSN, Xbox LIVE, and Origin friends are online.

The Star Wars: Battlefront Companion App is a well-done replacement for the Battlelog app that is used for the Battlefield series of first-person shooters. We’ll have to see how well it does once the full game launches on all platforms next Tuesday.
