It was previously reported that WWE is interested in bringing former WWE United States and Tag-Team Champion Carlito back to the company, as they’re trying to find a Hispanic star , and they believe that Carlito is exactly what they’re looking for.
Carlito made his WWE debut in October of 2004, and he instantly began feuding with John Cena, who was the United States Champion back then as well. Six years later, WWE released Carlito after he violated the wellness policy, and refused to go to rehab.
Nearly a year ago, Carlito did an interview with E Wrestling News , and he was asked about a potential return to WWE. He was open to it, saying that he has no bad feelings towards any one in the company.
“It’s not because I need a job. I have traveled a lot to wrestle around the world in places like Mexico, Qatar and Australia. However, I would accept going back to WWE. I have no bad feelings with anyone there.”
Now, the Wrestling Observer is reporting that WWE has made an offer to Carlito, however, the offer was rejected, as Carlito felt that WWE low-balled him on the offer. So, he is interested in returning, but he just wants WWE to offer him a bit more money.
Furthermore, former WWE writer Court Bauer and Konnan said on MLW Radio that Carlito is likely headed back to WWE.
Apparently, on top of wanting a Hispanic star, WWE is also wanting Carlito to get involved in a storyline with Los Matadores, who are portrayed by his brother Primo, and his cousin Epico. Of course, the plan doesn’t involve bringing in Carlito, and making him the third Matador, as he’s too big of a star for a gimmick like that.
WWE has been trying desperately to find a new Hispanic star ever since Rey Mysterio quit wrestling full-time, and Alberto Del Rio was fired. However, it is worth mentioning that, even though WWE wants a new Hispanic star, there aren’t any Hispanic wrestlers training at the WWE Performance Center.
Bringing in Carlito is a quick fix to WWE wanting to appeal to a Hispanic audience, but, of course, it’s not the long term answer. So, it’ll be interesting to see if WWE tries to go out and sign some young, Hispanic wrestlers in the next several months, so they can have a long term solution to their problem.
