Seattle Seahawks playoff tickets may already be coming off the printing presses. The Seahawks absolutely destroyed the Chicago Bears on Sunday, September 27, making a statement that the team wants to get to a third-straight Super Bowl. This 26-0 victory showed glimpses into how deep the roster has become in Seattle and how several new faces could make a huge difference during the 2015 NFL season.
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson completed 20-of-30 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 28 yards on six carries, helping keep the defense honest while the Seahawks had the ball. Wilson got tight end Jimmy Graham very involved in the game, completing seven passes to him for 83 yards on the day. One of the biggest plays of the night was a huge touchdown pass to Graham where he had to shake off several defenders to make it into the end zone.
The biggest surprise of the day may have come from backup running back Thomas Rawls, who saw a lot of playing time when Marshawn Lynch hurt his hamstring. Rawls rushed for 104 yards on 16 carries and dominating the line of scrimmage in the second half. Rawls was a big reason that the Seattle Seahawks were able to control time of possession in the game. This gives the team a huge weapon to give Lynch additional rest as the season wears on.
Tyler Lockett also made a play for the highlight reels, fielding a kickoff deep in the end zone to open the second half. He took it 105 yards back for a touchdown, giving him his second return touchdown of the young season. Richard Sherman also got to show off a bit, taking a punt return 64 yards down the sideline to get the Seahawks into scoring position on another drive. The special teams was very important again, with Steven Hauschka adding four more field goals to finish off the scoring.
With this win, the Seahawks catch the St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West standings . The team is still two games behind the undefeated Arizona Cardinals, but the teams will play each other two times this year. Beating the Chicago Bears was a must-win game for the team, especially after two rough road games to start the season. Next up for the Seattle Seahawks is a Week 4 home game against the Detroit Lions. Game time is 5:30 p.m. PT on October 5, with ESPN providing national coverage.
