After being on and off in the media for a while now, it seems the sequel to the Jack Reacher story with Tom Cruise in the lead is definitely on, and the directors may have their villain all picked out.
It’s been a while since the 2012 film Jack Reacher hit theater screens, based on the novels of popular author, Lee Child. According to Variety , that film grossed $218 million worldwide for Paramount and was directed and screen-written by Christopher McQuarrie.
Now reports are out that the sequel to that movie is going ahead, with Jack Reacher 2 hopefully hitting cinema screens in 2016.

According to the Hollywood Reporter , Tom Cruise is set to play the part of the rough and extremely tough Jack Reacher yet again, and now producers are in talks with a possible villain for the piece, with Gossip Girl actor Patrick Heusinger a strong possibility. Heusinger has also appeared in TV shows such as Castle and Revolution.
The cast reportedly already has Cobie Smulders, Aldis Hodge and Danika Yarosh lined up for the Ed Zwick directed film. Richard Wenk wrote the original draft, and Zwick, together with Marshall Herskovitz, has worked on a more recent draft of the script. Tom Cruise, 53, and Don Granger are reportedly producing the film.

The Jack Reacher sequel is based on Child’s book Never Go Back, which tells the story of former army major Jack Reacher traveling from South Dakota back to the Virginia headquarters of the US Army Military Police Corps where he used to be based. On arrival back at the base, he finds his new commanding officer has been arrested.
The book itself received critical acclaim and is one of a series of 20 stories about the unusual major, written by British author Jim Grant under the pen name Lee Child.

The series follows the adventures of a former military policeman, Major Jack Reacher, an iconic character who wanders around the U.S. with no belongings and only a cash card and toothbrush in his pocket.
