The AlDub drama reached a fever pitch on Saturday as Alden and Yaya Dub finally had their first date, an event that took Twitter by storm.
The love story has been playing out on the Kalyeserye segment of Eat Bulaga , but the story is reaching far beyond the Philippines. Outlets from across the globe are taking notice, and Saturday’s date between Alden and Yaya Dub appeared to be the biggest episode yet.
As Zeizib noted, the daily hashtag #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate was taking off hours before the noontime show aired.
Has tag #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate already trended worldwide and owned the top spot of trending topics in the Philippines early Saturday morning.
As of 8:00 am, the hash tag already collected more than two million tweets on Twitter, which is far compare from previous record breaking hash tags #AldubTheAbduction and #ALDUBBATTLEForACause.
#ALDUBBATTLEForACause trended with 5.8M tweets on September 5 while #AldubTheAbduction collected 6.01M tweets on September 12.
Even Walt Disney Studios got in on the AlDub fever, posting a picture on its Facebook page.

The AlDub anticipation is being pushed largely thanks to Wally Bayola’s character, Lola Nidora, who has been keeping the couple at arm’s length so far.
The drama only built as Saturday’s show approached, with fans barely able to contain their excitement.

But as the Disney page pointed out, the social media was pretty split between people obsessed with AlDub’s first date and people utterly annoyed with it.

The wild success of AlDub has inspired the competing noontime program, Showtime, to create some romantic drama of its own. The show’s Pastillas Girl brings its own love storyline, though GMA’s Eat Bulaga has been consistently winning in the ratings and also in terms of social media presence.
As Inquirer noted, it may be difficult for GMA to keep up the popularity.
“It’s obvious that nobody at GMA wants to kill or caponize the goose that’s been laying all those golden eggs—but, how much longer can the story be stretched out before more people huffily snort, ‘Enough!?’ ” the report noted.
