TCU Moves Up To Second In New College Football Polls

The TCU football team is now the second ranked team in all of college football, if the coaches are to be believed. The new college football rankings are officially out, and while the TCU Horned Frogs were snubbed in favor of two Big 10 teams, the coaches poll has the Big 12 team ranked as the second best. There was a bit of a shakeup in the rankings, thanks to the fact that Alabama was knocked off Saturday night by Ole Miss. In its stead, the coaches feel as though TCU deserves to move in behind Ohio State. The media believes Michigan State is the second best squad in college football.

As the Dallas Morning News points out, it isn’t as though the AP has no respect for the TCU football team. The Associated Press, which is the media’s representatives in these polls, has forged a tie between TCU and Mississippi, which jumped a massive 12 spots in that poll. Ole Miss was ranked 15th coming into the weekend, but their win against the Crimson Tide was apparently good enough to convince the media the team needed to be in the top 10.

Perhaps the most interesting thing of note, other than TCU’s rise in the coaches poll, is that Ohio State is still the consensus number one in both college football polls. Despite the fact that Ohio State’s offense has struggled mightily against some rather inferior opponents, everyone in both polls still believe the Buckeyes are the best team in college football. Meanwhile, the climb towards the top of the polls is going to be more difficult for the TCU football team, considering they lost yet another defensive starter in the first half of their blowout win over SMU.

Fox Sports reports that TCU head coach Gary Patterson told TCU Radio to announce that his football team would be without starting cornerback Ranthony Texada for the rest of the season. This is the second straight week where the team has lost a defensive starter for the year. Perhaps that was why the team allowed 37 points in their 56-37 win. That close game against an inferior opponent is likely the reason why the media believes Michigan State is the better team right now. There’s a lot of season left to play this year, and TCU football will have a chance to make their case before all is said and done.
