One Direction wrapped up the North American leg of their “On The Road Again” world tour over the weekend and left U.S. based fans wondering if they would ever be able to see One Direction in concert again. As Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson prepare for the final leg of their tour, back home in the UK, fans are beginning to prepare for the bands split early next year. One Direction were brought together by Simon Cowell on reality TV show X-Factor and have gone on to become one of the world’s biggest selling bands. Now One Direction have been warned that past success as a band is no guarantee of a solo career.

The various members of One Direction have indicated that they plan to pursue solo projects during their break, be it temporary or permanent, but no clear plans have been made public. According to Unreality TV former Westlife star Shane Filan has warned One Direction not to expect solo success. Filan claims that all five members of One Direction cannot hope to succeed as solo artists. Speaking to the Daily Star Filan insists that “no-one is guaranteed success.”

“It will be impossible for them to have that level of success. One or two of them may have big solo careers but it will all be down to the songs. It might not be the one you expect to do well either.”

As a former member of a boy-band, Filan is well placed to offer advice to One Direction. His own solo career hardly set the world on fire and the list of boy-band members who struggled to make an impact as solo artists is virtually endless. Former X-Factor judge and Westlife mentor Louis Walsh is on record as saying that he believes that Harry Styles is the only One Direction member who has what it takes to make it as a solo artist.

According to NME Liam Payne has told Attitude magazine that One Direction will definitely work together again but he also indicated that he knew that One Direction will not go on forever.

“This won’t last forever, and there will be a point when we will break off and do our own things, but… we will work together again.”

Former One Direction star Zayn Malik has signed a solo contract with RCA but has not released any music as yet. Louis Tomlinson is thought to be keen on developing his own record label. Harry Styles is widely tipped for a movie career whilst Liam Payne and Niall Horan are said to be keen to stay in the music industry.
