Johnsonville, a national maker of frozen pork sausages, is recalling some of its frozen pork patties due to possible contamination with metal shards, MSN is reporting.
The recalled Johnsonville meat product is manufactured by Johnsonville partner Kenosha Beef International.
Four incidents have been reported of metal shards showing up in Johnsonville’s Cheddar Cheese & Bacon Grillers ; fortunately, no injuries or illnesses have been associated with any of those cases.
The possibly-contaminated Johnsonville products were sold in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin. If you purchased Johnsonville products from one of those states, here’s how you can tell if you have possibly contaminated product: look for six-count boxes of the patties with a “Best-By Date” of December 29, 2015, and the “Establishment Number” EST 425 B. If you have thrown away the box, you can still find the number printed on the plastic package the meat was contained in.
And if you’re still not sure, throw it out.

The recall will affect some 89,000 pounds of meat , according to UPI .
In a statement, the company said that they believe the risk of anyone getting sick from the contaminated products is “minimal.”
“While we believe the risk to be minimal, we take no chances when it comes to protecting our consumers’ health and safety. However, because there’s the potential of this affected product being in the market, the voluntary recall was initiated.”
Customers who purchased the possibly contaminated meat can get a full refund by calling a toll-free number (1-888-556-2728) or by filling out a form online at Johnsonville.com .
On its website, Johnsonville issued a statement apologizing for the scare it may have caused customers.
“At Johnsonville, we are committed to delivering the highest quality products and we take the safety and integrity of our products very seriously. One of our products, Johnsonville Cheddar Cheese & Bacon Grillers (frozen variety), is part of a voluntary recall because it may contain metal fragments. There have been four incidents reported, with no occurrences of illness or injury associated with consumption of this product.”
This is not the first time Johnsonville products have been recalled from store shelves; in 2012, according to WXIA (Atlanta), some 49,000 pounds of Johnsonville turkey sausage was recalled after it was discovered that some of the product sold in certain states may have contained pieces of a worker’s glove.
