An 11-year-old boy has shot and killed an intruding teenager at his home in St. Louis, according to reports emerging in the media.

The young boy and his little sister, 4, were the only ones at home when a teenager, 16, tried to break into their house. According to the police, it is not the first time that the teenager tried to break in, as the young boy and his sister had previously staved off several home invasion attempts by the intruding teenager. The identity of the dead teenager has not yet been revealed by the police.

CNN reports that police arrived to the suburban home on Hallwood Drive in north St. Louis County to discover the dead body of the teenager lying in the front foyer. Though the reasons for the killing remain unknown, the police say that the two kids are cooperating with the investigation.

According to Fox News , two suspects had tried to break into the house twice on Thursday. One of the suspects got into the unlocked front door of the home at around 2:30pm when the 11-year-old and his little sister were alone at home. This was the moment the 11-year-old boy shot and killed the teenager.

However, neighbors have questioned the reasons behind the killing, pointing out that the two boys were seen on the front porch of the home when the 11-year-old took out a gun and fired.

“They were just arguing loud, you know, back and forth. He was always was just sitting right there on the porch. He never did once go inside the house.”

It is still not known why the two kids were left alone in the house, or why an 11-year-old had access to a firearm, but the police have confirmed that the kids’ mother is helping the police with the questioning. Apparently, the mother had bought the handgun to defend her family from attempted break-ins to her house, which as we understand, happened on a consistent basis .

This is the third fatal attack involving guns and children in this particular suburb of St. Louis. According to KLPR 11, 9-year-old Jamyla Bolden was shot and killed in her mother’s bed only a couple of weeks ago, followed by the death of two-year-old Carter Epps who died after being shot in the torso.
