This year has remained a dark period for professional wrestling. Dusty Rhodes and Roddy Piper passed away unexpectedly. The WWE is experiencing low ratings. Hulk Hogan, former WWE champion, was caught on tape using racial slurs. His former employer, the WWE, terminated him from his contract.

Unfortunately, another WWE legend has gotten into trouble. According to SEScoops.com and Pennsylvania’s Morning Call , Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka was arrested this morning and charged with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.

“The charges will be announced at a news conference this afternoon. Snuka was arraigned at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday at the Lehigh County Central Booking Center. He was sent to county jail under $100,000 bail.”

These charges were in connection to the death of his former girlfriend, Nancy Argentino, in 1983. SEScoops points out that in Snuka’s autobiography, which was written in 2012, he claimed that he was innocent.

“Many terrible things have been written about me hurting Nancy and being responsible for her death, but they are not true. This has been very hard on me and very hard on my family. To this day, I get nasty notes and threats. It hurts. I never hit Nancy or threatened her.”

This news is just the latest in a rough year for the Snuka family. The Superfly was recently diagnosed with stomach cancer, however, it appears that he is doing well with his progress towards recovery. Jimmy Snuka’s last appearance in the WWE came at WrestleMania 31 , when he congratulated Daniel Bryan on winning the Intercontinental championship.

Since then, Snuka hasn’t made many returns to the company that enshrined him in its Hall of Fame. As for his case right now, the prosecution will still have to prove that the WWE Hall of Fame member is guilty.

Even though he was arrested and charged, that isn’t the final word on his future; a court date will be assigned, and that’s where Snuka’s future will be determined.

WWE fans are also wondering about the statute of limitations rule coming into play. That logic comes from the fact that Argentino’s death took place 32 years ago; however there is no statute of limitations for murder, else investigators couldn’t have begun probing into her death last year. When the case was reopened, Snuka’s future relationship with the WWE was unofficially in limbo.
