Avril Lavigne is back in action after the dark days of her battle against Lyme disease, with a helping hand from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Foster, who is fighting the syndrome herself. After a year’s absence from the stage, Lavigne is feeling better and is beginning to make appearances, most recently at a Taylor Swift concert, where she performed her song, “Complicated.”

Yolanda Foster had a lot to teach Lavigne after her diagnosis. Diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012, Foster has thrown herself into seeking out new and different therapies, according to the Inquisitr. In addition to conventional treatments, including anti-inflammatories and antibiotics, Foster has done stem cell therapy and cryotherapy.

Bravo is reporting that luckily, Lavigne wasn’t alone when she was diagnosed, as family friend (Avril sang at Yolanda’s wedding to David Foster in 2011) Yolanda Foster was ready to help.

“I took Avril under my wing when she first got sick and shared all I know,” Yolanda says. “I am so proud of her for going public,” says Yolanda, “and helping us bring awareness to this debilitating disease.”

While waiting for a diagnosis, Lavigne was suffering, while people around her just didn’t understand, according to an interview in People Magazine .

“I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed,” she tells People in this week’s exclusive cover story. “My friends asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ I didn’t know.”

Finally, Lavigne found out she had Lyme disease.

“I had no idea a bug bite could do this,” says Lavigne, who believes she was bit by a tick sometime last spring. “I was bedridden for five months.”

Lavigne was lucky to have someone in her life who was already traveling that road , reported the Palm Beach Post .

“This is what they do to a lot of people who have Lyme disease,” she said. “They don’t have an answer for them so they tell them, like, ‘You’re crazy.’ ”

A course of appropriate antibiotics and other drugs have allowed Lavigne to return to her music career gradually, as she is feeling more like herself.
