The Big Bang Theory Season 8 ended with uncertain futures for a couple core relationships in the series. Are Leonard and Penny going to get married after the shocker he dropped on her on their way to Las Vegas? What’s going to happen to Sheldon and Amy? Will she find out about that ring he has?
In TBBT Season 8 finale, after waiting all that time for the couple to set a date for their wedding, Leonard and Penny decided to do just that — setting it for immediately and taking a road trip to Las Vegas. However, the drive wasn’t without its problems. Leonard decided to reveal something he had been keeping from Penny: He made out with someone else while on a boat in the North Sea. Despite Penny saying they were still going to get married after finding out, and even though the season did end with the couple on their way Vegas, anything could still happen.
Meanwhile, Amy took a step back from her relationship with Sheldon, asking for some time to reevaluate their situation and leaving him to wonder what to do about the engagement ring he had in his desk drawer.
According to Entertainment Weekly , the producers have said, “The fate of the ring Sheldon held at the end of the episode – and the fate of other rings – will be revealed.”
Having a ring at all for Amy is a big step forward for Sheldon, whose romantic gestures of any kind usually come across as the most shocking moments of each episode. Who knows what could be in the future for those two in the ninth season of The Big Bang Theory ?
As for the matter of Penny and Leonard getting married, TVLine has revealed that will happen in the September 21 premiere , “The Matrimonial Momentum.” (The series moves back to Thursdays after football this fall.) However, showrunner Steve Molaro went on to add that does not mean smooth sailing is ahead for the couple.
“That’s really only the beginning of the story. As fun and as great as it is to see them get married, that’s only part of it.”
Furthermore, when it comes to the couple getting married, the showrunner explained they “want to keep things moving forward, as well as exciting and scary and fun.” He also notes that even Penny, with her commitment issues, feels, “How much longer are we going to go back and forth on this? Let’s just jump in and hope for the best.”

The Big Bang Theory Season 9 premieres Monday, September 21 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
