Skeletal remains in a rural creek near Dallas, Texas have been identified as 10-year old Jonathan Ramsey, a boy who was allegedly starved to death by his dad and step-mom, according to police and a family member.

According to Huffington Post, police in Dallas have confirmed with the Dallas County medical examiner that the remains have been linked to missing child Johnathan Ramsey, following DNA testing.

The remains, which were found on April 21st, confirm the 10-year-old’s father, Aaron Ramsey’s statement that he starved the child to death last year.

The medical examiner declined to give additional information, because the remains were found in a different county.

Johnathan’s step-grandmother, Starla Swanson, was able to confirm that the family was told of a positive identification between the remains and the young boy had been made.

KHOU reports that Aaron Ramsey and Elizabeth Ramsey are currently at the Dallas County Jail, following felony charges of injury to a child. The two are accused of the slow starvation of Johnathan, who was reportedly so weak that he was barely able to walk.

The boy’s father told officers that the boy was so starved for food that he ate his own excrement.

According to KHOU, Ramsey told officers that he starved the boy from March until August of 2011, and that Johnathan had lost 30 pounds, before passing away. The two adults reportedly wrapped the young boy’s body in a sleeping bag following his death, and abandoned his body in the creek.

A spokeswoman for the Dallas County district attorney did not respond to a question on whether they will seek additional charges following the identification of the remains as Johnathan Ramsey.
