Prince Charles surprised viewers in Scotland on Thursday when he stepped in to do the BBC weather forecast. The 63-year-old prince toured the network’s studio in Scotland, and stepped in for the weather, reading off of a script that was made specially for him.

The Prince of Wales’ appeared to be completely comfortable, looking natural as he held the clicker to the maps, and read off the afternoon forecast “cold, wet, and windy.”

Prince Charles, looking into the camera in a dark suit and striped red tie, commented:

“The best of the bright and dry weather will of course be in the northern isles and the far north of the mainland. So, a little hazy sunshine for the Castle of Mey in Caithness…but a cold day everywhere with temperatures of just 8C and a brisk northerly wind. Thank God it isn’t a bank holiday.”

The heir to the throne was sure to garner laughs when he stated:

“There’s potential for a few flurries over Balmoral — who the hell wrote this script?! — as the afternoon goes on. In the west the rain will be lighter and patchier. There’ll be maybe a few drier interludes over Dumfries House in Ayrshire. Aha!”

The Prince’s special script included mentions of royal residences in Scotland.

Camilla took her turn in front of the BBC camera as well, as she read the bulletin. Stav Danaos, the regular BBC weatherman commented that he feared for his job, after watching the two royals step in. He said:

“They did a great job and were consummate professionals. The prince even ended with his own pay-off line, which is always good.”
