Roger Stone: Report Says Donald Trump’s Ex-Adviser Thinks He’s ‘Losing Grip On Reality’

Roger Stone, the longtime friend and political adviser to Donald Trump, says that he resigned his post.

“The Donald” has a different story, claiming that he fired Stone for seeking the spotlight for himself instead of focusing on the “Make America Great Again” campaign that Trump is running for the GOP nomination.

This assertion that Stone did not leave on a voluntary basis has caused him to speak out on the issue in an interview with CNN.

After refuting claims that he was fired, Stone had nothing but praise for Trump and said that if he had the opportunity to vote for Trump as the GOP representative, he would do so.

However, friends of Stone are telling a more conflicting story, noting that after the Megyn Kelly scuffle, the adviser became frustrated and admitted that Donald Trump was “losing his grip on reality.”

“He has these yes-men around him. And now he’s living in a parallel world,” he was reported to have said.

For the record, Roger Stone kept those thoughts to himself but did admit that he felt the campaign was getting away from the core issues that made it resonate with voters in the first place.

He also felt that he wasn’t having much of an impact and released the following resignation letter to the press [ via Mediaite ].

“I was proud to have played a role in the launch of your presidential campaign. Your message of ‘Make America Great Again’ harkened back to the Reagan era. Restoring national pride and bringing jobs back to America — your initial and still underlying message — is a solid conservative message. In fact, it catapulted you instantly into a commanding lead in the race… Unfortunately, the current controversies involving personalities and provocative media fights have reached such a high volume that it has distracted attention from your platform and overwhelmed your core message… With this current direction of the candidacy, I no longer can remain involved in your campaign.”

Stone said he sent that letter about an hour before Trump told the Washington Post’s Robert Costa that Stone had been fired.
