Donald Trump’s campaign is in turmoil following his remarks about Megyn Kelly, the moderator at the GOP debate in Cleveland on Thursday, after it was revealed that his top adviser, Roger Stone, had left his team. However, we’re still not quite sure if he quit, or had been fired.

Stone tweeted on Saturday afternoon that he had left the campaign over Trump’s argument with Kelly.

Sorry @realDonaldTrump didn’t fire me- I fired Trump. Diasagree with diversion to food fight with @megynkelly away core issue messages

New York Times ‘ Maggie Haberman then tweeted the letter that Stone allegedly sent to Donald Trump this morning, tendering his resignation.

However, a spokesperson for the Donald Trump campaign not only told Daily Mail that it was Trump who fired Stone, but they also tried to insist that Stone was only using it to promote himself.

“My Trump fired Roger Stone last night,” the official explained. “We have a tremendously successful campaign and Roger wanted to use the campaign for his own personal publicity. He has had a number of articles about him recently and Mr. Trump wants to keep the focus of the campaign on how to Make America Great Again.”

Stone soon took to Twitter to dismiss these claims.

The notion that I somehow need @realDonaldTrump to get publicity for myself is really, really funny- he should do a google NEWS search — Roger Stone (@RogerJStoneJr) August 8, 2015

Stone, who previously worked as an aide for President Richard Nixon and has been a friend of Donald Trump for decades, left because he felt that Donald Trump lacked discipline in the debate and it turned into a “circus-like place.”

But their working relationship was irrecoverably ruined after Trump’s comments about Megyn Kelly to CNN . Trump told Lemon about Kelly’s behavior in the debate, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”

Trump then took to Twitter to clarify his remarks.

Re Megyn Kelly quote: “you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever” (NOSE). Just got on w/thought

. @redstate I miss you all, and thanks for all of your support. Political correctness is killing our country. “weakness.”

Several sources have since revealed that Stone had become disillusioned with Trump over the last few weeks, as he wasn’t focusing on specific policies and believed that it lacked “seriousness.”
