It looks like all of those rumors that The Elder Scrolls Online was in production have turned out to be true. Earlier today, ZeniMax, Bethesda’s parent company, announced by way of Game Informer that The Elder Scrolls Online will be coming to PC and Mac next year.
“It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years,” said The Elder Scrolls Online game director Matt Firor, an MMO veteran who worked on Mythic’s Dark Age of Camelot . “The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”
The Elder Scrolls Online , in development by the team at ZeniMax Online Studios, is set roughly 1,000 years before the events in Skyrim , which, as previously rumored, would put it around the “Second Era” in Elder Scrolls lore. In other words, The Elder Scrolls will take place in a really early time period, before even Daggerfall , Morrowind and Oblivion .
The Elder Scrolls Online will take place all throughout Tamriel, including Cyrodiil, Elseweyr, and, of course, the northern lands of Skyrim. The story will follow the daedric prince Molag Bal as he wreaks havoc throughout the lands in an attempt to turn Tamriel into his own personal demonic realm.
Game Informer says that a brief teaser trailer is expected to be released tomorrow, along with the first in-game screenshot of The Elder Scrolls Online . More information, including the questing system, the game’s three factions, and the PVP system, will be revealed in the June issue of Game Informer.
