Marriage equality took a shot to the face, literally, yesterday when a North Carolina resident filmed himself walkign up to one of the Amedment 1 signs and unloading on it twice with a shotgun. The video is a viral sensation in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) blogosphere .

The man who identifies himself only as Alex narrates the video saying,

“Right now, there’s this amendment trying to be passed — Amendment One — that’s going to state that marriage is going to be between one man and one woman, which is how it ought to be.” Noting that he “was just going to have a little talk” about a “Vote Against Amendment One” sign displayed by a neighbor, Alex proceeds to fire two bullets into the sign with his shotgun. Ending with, “That’s all, folks,”

Blogger Joe.My.God, who first linked to the video on his blog , wrote that he had been in contact with the Kannopolis police department who told him that if the shotgun had been fired onto property that contains a home or business it is considered a crime.

On May 8, North Carolinians will be headed to the polls to vote for a candidate to represent the Republican Party against Barack Obama and at the same time vote on whether the State should have a law mandating marriages only be between a man and a woman.

In light of strong support for anti equality bills throughout the country, Public Policy Polling reportedly released a new poll showing that support among North Carolinians for the proposed anti-gay amendment has dropped to a record low .
