Ariana Grande made her return to the stage following her doughnut debacle, and now she’s singing a completely different tune. If you missed what Grande and doughnuts have in common, we’ll fill you in.

Video footage of Ariana Grande was released and Grande was captured over the Fourth of July holiday licking doughnuts at a local establishment. These doughnuts were on a tray sitting on a counter. Then Grande, who’s American, goes on to say, “I hate Americans. I hate America.” An investigation was opened following the incident.

The singer faced mega backlash over her comments and doughnut licking. The 22-year-old has since apologized after the debacle, saying that she was “EXTREMELY proud to be an American” and was “sorry for not using more discretion.” Grande hitting the stage was the first time she made a public appearance since her apology.

She hit the stage in Tampa, Florida, and during the concert issued yet another apology. “I’m so grateful to be here in Tampa! And I’m so, so grateful to be here performing in the USA, the greatest country in the world!”

According to the Tampa Tribune , some fans had fun with the doughnut incident. Some even showed up to the concert with signs that said, “I can be your doughnut.” In a concert review , the journalist writes that it was easy for fans to forget about the incident. “Any pushback over the video was muted at Thursday night’s performance. An enthusiastic crowd of mostly teenage girls waited outside the arena before doors opened.”

“By the time the pop star ended with the upbeat “Break Free,” the arena was nonstop cheering from the ecstatic crowd who screamed her name until she came back to do “Problem” as an encore. By then there was no doubt that, for Tampa at least, she had licked her doughnut problem.”

After the concert Grande took to Twitter to show her gratitude. Perhaps this is what damage control looks like?

thank you, Tampa absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude. I love love love you, babes. and appreciate you. more than you’ll ever know.

As for the incident at Wolfee Donuts , it’s said that the singer may be charged. The owner, Joe Marin, told a Canadian radio show, “I’ve been hearing that I decided not to press charges. I don’t know where that came from…I did press charges. When I was reading the newspapers they said I decided not to, and I don’t know where that came from.”

Do you think Ariana Grande should be forgiven for her comments about America?
