Tom Brady could sue the NFL if his suspension isn’t thrown out, according to a report from Newsweek . While it was widely known that Brady was going to do his all to get the four-game suspension originally handed down reduced or completely erased, this is a far bigger move. While Brady could sue the NFL if the four-game ban isn’t reduced, apparently, an ABC News reporter said that the NFL Player’s Association isn’t even willing to deal with one game.

Deflategate aside, Brady and the NFLPA want nothing to do with any type of suspension for Brady. Currently, Brady’s four-game suspension would result in him missing games against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Dallas Cowboys. At this point, it’s widely known that Brady has denied any participation in Deflategate, so essentially, the suspension is under the assumption that he played some role in the whole ordeal.
Brady’s argument is pretty strong, and it would be surprising to see the suspension hold up. In a day and age where many believe Roger Goodell holds all of the cards, this situation will likely go in favor of Brady and the Players Association.
Newsweek also points out that if it did get to the point where a lawsuit was filed, Brady would be in a very good spot.
“In the event a lawsuit is filed, it would be in Massachusetts, where Brady is a beloved player, or in Minnesota, which was described by the NFL network as a ‘ labor friendly court ‘ that could swing in Brady’s favor.”
Deflategate has been a hot button topic, ever since the 2015 NFL postseason, but the report that Brady could sue the NFL just adds more intrigue to the whole ordeal. It’s worth noting that if this did end up in court, that it could drag on for years, which would mean that Brady could play throughout the process.
Essentially, even the rumor that Brady could sue the NFL makes it seem all the more likely that he won’t be missing any time heading into the 2015 season. Whether it’s through Goodell deciding to eliminate Brady’s suspension all together, or the entire case going to court, we should prepare to see Brady on the field for Week 1.
Brady will either win the appeal, or he’ll win the suit against the league. Regardless of the route that this whole thing goes, Tom Brady will once again walk away as a winner.
