Florence Colgate is slinging fish and chips instead of strutting on the catwalk, but the 18-year-old student has been chosen as Britain’s most attractive woman based on science.
Like many things in life, Florence Colgate’s attractiveness comes down to simple math. The contest in Britain won by Colgate used mathematic ratios to rate more than 8,000 participants against one another, ultimately determining that Florence’s face was the most beautiful in all of the UK.
The contest was arranged by ITV’s Lorraine program, and of all the contestants, Colgate’s features most closely approached the ideal ratios determined by the contest’s parameters. Judges cited the student’s high cheekbones, pouty lips and large eyes as signs of youth, fertility and health and barometers of absolute, scientific physical attractiveness.
One of the aspects of the contest was that the winner be decreed beautiful “without makeup,” and Colgate said she wasn’t worried about being judged sans foundation and lipstick. The chip shop worker explains:
“My friends and family said I was naturally beautiful and encouraged me to enter the competition so I thought I would give it a go. I was fine having my picture taken with no make up on as I am used to it. I never really wear a lot of make up. Women should not have to feel that they have to wear make up. I hope people will look at me and think they don’t need to wear lots of make up.”
Colgate continues:
“You have to have quite a lot of confidence to enter a competition, so I guess I am confident. It felt amazing to win. My friends are really happy for me. I am very happy with the way I look. I would never have any plastic surgery or botox.”
