The newest teaser trailer for Mockingjay Part 2 hit the internet today. The Mockingjay herself, Katniss Everdeen, sporting a bright red battle outfit, slowly glides into a room of soldiers clad in all white as they perform rhythmic gun drills in unison.
While fans of the Hunger Games series are used to the big promo build up of the films and Mockingjay Part 2 is one of this year’s mostly highly anticipated releases, fans who grew up in the 1980s couldn’t help but draw a comparison between this particular Mockingjay clip and Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation” video.
OK did everyone else immediately think of “Rhythm Nation” when they saw that Mockingjay teaser?

The final installment of the Hunger Games series, Mockingjay Part 2 , doesn’t hit theaters until November 20. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a full-length trailer for months, but true to Hunger Games marketing form, Mockingjay Part 2 has only released bits here and there including promo pics and two other previous teaser clips . Fans at San Diego Comic Con were treated this week to a panel including Mockingjay Part 2 stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson.
Fans of the Hunger Games series of books know the highly-charged emotions associated with the fictional Mockingjay , but it was the stars who surprised the Comic Con panel (including a teary eyed Josh Hutcherson) as they discussed the special connection they’ve developed with the characters and which each other and the emotional toll it took.
“These movies really did change my life… You guys challenged me. I love you,” Hutcherson who plays Peeta Melark, a character that goes through extreme transformation in Mockingjay , tearfully noted.
And when asked how the role of the Mockingjay, Katness Everdeen, effected Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence she replied, “I hope some of Katniss rubbed off on me because she’s brave.”
Whether or not it was the intention of the Mockingjay marketing crew to stir up some Janet Jackson nostalgia isn’t clear, but nevertheless, it created some lightheartedness regarding what is presumed to be a very dark Mockingjay film.
