Jared Leto’s gifts that he handed out to his co-stars of the upcoming Suicide Squad movie have people wondering if Leto has merged with the character he is playing in the future blockbuster. Jared Leto landed the role of The Joker in the Suicide Squad .
The recipients of Jared Leto’s gifts were Margot Robbie and Will Smith.
Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, was given a beautiful love letter, a black box, and a living rat inside of the box. Will Smith, in the role of Deadshot, only got bullets from Jared Leto. He then sent a dead hog as a gift to the entire cast of the movie.
Jared Leto sent gifts to the set because he was not going to be able to be there at the start of the project. He used the gifts as a way to let his co-stars know that he was working on getting into character. Leto also sent a video of him completely engrossed in the role of The Joker. Adam Beach, who plays Slipnot, commented about the gifts and the video.
“Basically, what he said was, ‘Guys, I can’t be there but I want you to know I’m doing my work as hard as you guys. The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real…. He encompasses this beautiful man and he shows it in, ‘Hello, how are you?’ but in an instant, he goes to psychotic behavior where you’re in fear.”
The cast for the Suicide Squad was announced in December 2014. Fans were divided when Jared Leto was announced to play the iconic Joker character. Fans in the DC Universe quickly started to debate on whether Leto could create a Joker character better than Heath Ledger did in The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger has been considered to have played The Joker better than any other actor who has tackled that role.
By the way Adam Beach talked about Jared Leto’s video, fans do not have to worry about Leto’s take on The Joker. Leto clearly has been able to channel the insanity and fear that The Joker is known for.
The Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters on August 5, 2016. The movie will be directly linked to the DC Cinematic Universe.
