The Associated Press is reporting that suspected New Orleans cop killer Travis Boys was captured Sunday morning and placed under arrest. Boys is suspected of killing New Orleans police officer Daryle Holloway Saturday morning while Boys was being transported to prison after being arrested on charges of aggravated burglary.

The manhunt lasted just over 24 hours and came to a conclusion in New Orleans ninth ward. WDSU is reporting that Boys was caught as he was trying to board a bus . The 33-year-old will now face several charges and will certainly be asked a lot of questions about how he managed to get his hands on a weapon while his hands were restrained in the back of a police car. New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Michael Harrison brought up those questions on Saturday.

“That prisoner somehow was able to get his hands from behind his back where he was handcuffed, where he was then handcuffed from the front. Apparently he is double jointed and able to do that in the back of the car.”

Holloway was shot, which resulted in him crashing his cruiser into a utility pole. Boys then broke through the barrier between the front and the back of the car and eventually escaped on foot. Fox News reported Harrison had this to say about the altercation .

“Officer Holloway put up a fight to try to get the subject to not exit the vehicle but succumbed to his injuries.”

As reported on earlier here at the Inquisitr several agencies were involved in the manhunt, including the Louisiana Sate Police and U.S. Marshals Service.

Holloway was the first New Orleans police officer killed in the line of duty since Rodney Thomas was killed by a hit and run driver while attending to a minor traffic accident.

Holloway was 45-years-old and was a 22-year veteran on the New Orleans police force. He left behind three children. His ex-wife spoke to the New York Daily News on Saturday and described how his kids were preparing to celebrate Father’s Day with him.

“I took my youngest daughter shopping for Father’s Day gifts yesterday. She had all these gifts waiting to give him tomorrow. She made sure her dad was taken care of for tomorrow.”

Now that the suspected New Orleans cop killer is in custody, authorities will need to keep a close eye on him. This wasn’t the first time Boys had tried to escape custody as he did so in 1999 and 2004, according to the New Orleans Times Picayune .
