Forget promises to balance the budget, Newt Gingrich can’t even manage to balance his own checkbook and it could cost him his name on the upcoming Utah ballot. The GOP presidential hopeful recently submitted his name for approval on the Utah ballot, a move that requires a $500 application fee. Unfortunately for Newt his check didn’t clear which has forced Utah officials to reject his request.

In the meantime Newt Gingrich and his campaign have until April 20 to get the bounced check issue sorted if he wants to appear on the ballot. Officials in Utah say they have repeatedly called Newt’s campaign phone numbers and they have sent emails to his campaign with no response. The state realizing the deadline is approaching recently sent out a certified letter to ensure it reaches the correct campaign people for Newt’s election bid.

For the most part Newt has attempted to run a sleek campaign that pinched every dollar as much as possible with several million coming from his biggest sponsor, casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson.

On Sunday Newt sent so far as to admit that the was using “a little bit” of his own money to help the campaign along. The Gingrich campaign is currently believed to be $4.5 million in debt.

Most recently we witnessed Newt Gingrich’s money groups when his own health care think tank filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy last week.

Perhaps Jimmy Kimmel didn’t have such a bad suggestion after all when he said we should all just pay Newt Gingrich to go away.

In case you happen to be keeping track, George Clooney is about to hold a $6 million fundraiser for President Obama and Gingrich apparently can’t raise $500.
