Two teenage girls were electrocuted as they tried to take a selfie on top of an old train. An eyewitness said the two teenagers exploded after brushing against a live train track.
Olesya Belmasova and Anastasiya Kirillova, both 16-year-old friends, suffered awful burns after they brushed against a live railroad track in the Russian city of Taganrog. Thinking a tank car of an old train was no longer being used, the two teenage girls climbed onto the top of the tank car to take a selfie, which resulted in them being electrocuted and developing other injuries.
Actually, the old train was sitting on train tracks that had thousands of volts running through them, according to a report by the Daily Mirror .
The eyewitness of this horrifying moment was a worker who happened to be passing by when he spotted the teenage girls on top of the tank car.
The worker briefly described the terrible incident he witnessed.
“I was walking towards them to ask them what they were doing when they were suddenly blasted to the ground. One was completely blackened and the other was on fire as if she had exploded.”
Both teenagers were immediately transported to a children’s hospital. They suffered burns over 70 percent of their bodies, as well as a number of fractures.
Despite her severe injuries, Anastasia was able to talk and describe the teenage girl’s most unfortunate and painful experience.
“We climbed on top of the tank car and then I heard a loud clap. We fell off the car and onto the ground. My hair was on fire and I was in so much pain.”
The teenage girls didn’t realize that even though the tank car and old train looked worn out, it was still being used.
A police spokesperson said, “They wanted to take some photos from the top of the tank car but were injured by a high-voltage electric current.”
Unfortunately, this recent horrifying incident experienced by the two teenage girls is not the first time teens suffered serious injuries while trying to take a selfie. In May, an 18-year-old Romanian girl died when she attempted to snap a selfie on top of a train. She ended up catching on fire after coming in contact with 27,000 volts that ran through an overhead cable.
Both teenage girls are currently being hospitalized and are in serious condition.
