Amber Heard is opening up about her marriage to Johnny Depp for the first time. If you think being married to Johnny Depp will change your whole life, Heard is here to say that it won’t and it hasn’t.
Although Heard married Depp twice back in February, she told Elle for their July issue that nothing has changed.
“Nothing is a dramatic change. We’ve been together for a long time now, so it’s been a fairly organic process. I have a fiercely independent spirit.”
She continued, “I fall in love again and again.”
It’s said that Amber wasn’t too comfortable revealing too much about her personal life with Johnny. Perhaps because he’s a major Hollywood star, and she’s still trying to get out from under his thumb as an actress. That said, the reason why she keeps her private life private has to do with her freedom as well.
“The thing that really scares me is the potential of losing my freedom. I never want for my life to lose the ability to transverse the world, with freedom and ease—the freedom and ease I have worked so hard to acquire for myself.”
As far as fighting that public perception of being Depp’s arm candy, Heard said, “I feel like I’m constantly fighting against my exterior, or this exterior presentation of myself because of how I look or perhaps because of who I’m with.”
Defining herself as an actress isn’t easy, because at 28-years-old women are more likely to play the nagging girlfriend or wife, given that female roles are lacking development. Amber went on to explain this conundrum. “I get a stack of scripts, like, once a month, and most of the time, you find these placeholder girls that are there to provide a bounce for the male character. So we know he’s funny because she’s serious and she’s mad at him. We know he’s strong because she needs saving. So really her job is to validate this personality trait of our hero or male.”
As for her relationship with Depp, the two seem to be in good spirits, but as the Inquisitr reported , that fiercely independent spirit of hers and Depp’s drinking might be a cause of contention.
A source close to the couple told In Touch magazine, “Amber is constantly worried about him. He’ll go days without calling or texting her. He’s constantly partying and it’s caused huge fights with Amber. It’s been hard for them.”
Amber Heard’s next project is Magic Mike XXL which hits theaters in July.
