During the filming of this year’s Guys Choice Awards , legendary actor Clint Eastwood cracked a joke about Caitlyn Jenner. But none of the audience members seemed to be laughing at Eastwood’s joke.
According to Hollywood Life , Clint Eastwood was getting ready to introduce Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for the ceremony’s Troops’ Choice Award. Before he did so, Eastwood had mentioned that Johnson had joined the rankings of other athletes who became actors.
“Jim Brown and Caitlyn Something.”
The joke didn’t seem to work in Eastwood’s favor, as the audience let out a groan instead of a laugh. David Schwarz, the senior vice president of communications at Spike TV, said in an email that the station will not feature the joke in the broadcasted version of the ceremony.
“We will remove the reference in the version that will air.”
On his Facebook page, Johnson made no mention of the Clint Eastwood joke . Instead, he said it was an honor to meet Eastwood.
“What made this moment even more epic, was as a 100% total surprise to me.. this award was handed to me personally by a man I’ve never met, yet who I’ve always considered to be one of greatest inspirations and heroes… Mr. Clint Eastwood.”
The ironic thing about Spike TV’s removal of Eastwood’s comment is that press releases for the ceremony advertised it as “unfiltered” and “unpredictable,” according to USA Today .
This is not the first time Clint Eastwood has said or done something controversial at a big event. Back in 2012, the Inquisitr reported that Eastwood spoke to an empty chair during the Republican National Convention. The chair, according to Eastwood, was President Obama.
While viewers won’t get to hear Clint Eastwood’s comment, there were plenty of other jokes that will most likely make it to air. According to Variety , Jurassic World actor Chris Pratt took home the award for Guy of the Year. As he went to make his acceptance speech, Pratt mocked the stage design that featured a deer skull hanging above a fireplace.
“I don’t know if you can see this in the background, [but] I shot that deer, and Spike owes me some money for having it on their fireplace.”
Other winners at the event included Floyd Mayweather for Best Ever; Liam Neeson for Biggest A**kicker; and Salma Hayek for Decade of Hotness.
The ceremony was hosted by Empire stars Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard. Spike TV will air the ceremony on June 18, according to Variety .
