Karl Malone Jr (also known as K.J.) has officially committed to LSU. His high school coach Ben Haddox reported that the offensive guard let the coaching staff know he had decided to play for them following a spring game on Saturday.

Malone Jr. currently plays for Cedar Creek School in Ruston, La., and is the son of NBA legend Karl Malone, who played for the Utah Jass and Los Angeles Lakers over 19 seasons. Haddox stated that:

“He committed with coach (Les) Miles this afternoon, about an hour and a half ago, probably…it’s something he’s been thinking about. There’s a lot of pressure on these kids, at 16 years old, to make these kinds of decisions, and I think that’s been weighing on him. However, he has handled it great.”

He went on to commend the present and former linemen at LSU for helping Karl Malone Jr. make his decision. He remarked that:

“I can’t say enough about the LSU staff and the support staff today — (former center and current LSU graduate assistant) Ben Wilkerson and (tackle) Chris Davenport have just been great guys to talk to today…They had a lot of information and advice, and I know (Malone Jr.) took everything they had to say to heart. Ben is actually still hanging out with us right now and talking to K.J., and they’ve just been real great in this process.”

K.J.’s commitment to LSU gives the team it’s eighth so far, and with him on board, the Tigers are sure to be formidable opponents. Other commitments include senior Michael Patterson from Winnfield High in Winnfield, along with safety John Diarse of Neville High in Monroe (ranked No. 3 in the nation in the athlete category by Rivals.com) and cornerback Tre’Davious White of Green Oaks High in Shreveport.
